Extending along Maroubra Beach, Arthur Byrne Reserve separates the surf and sand from Marine Parade and the shopping strip beyond. The park has BBQs, undercover picnic tables and access to bathrooms, showers and kiosks.

Getting To Arthur Byrne Reserve

Arthur Byrne Reserve is on Marine Parade, between Fitzgerald Avenue and Maroubra Road. Surprisingly, there is a good chance of finding parking, even in the summer. The 4 hour parking limits imposed in the car parks that run the length of the reserve seem just right. Failing that, there is limited off street parking behind the shopping strip.

Here’s a map link to get you started. There are no trains on the eastern beaches. There are frequent buses, however.

BBQs, Surf and Shade

With all the risks associated with sun exposure, it’s good to take a break from the beach. Find respite beneath the trees, or under the numerous covered tables and benches around the reserve, while the kiosk and surf club serve as windbreaks on an otherwise unprotected beach. Bring the whole gang and cook up a few steaks on the outdoor BBQs that dot the park

Skate Park

The skate park is near the surf club and contains bowls, rails, a pyramid and street course. Loads of fun and the concrete is really smooth.

Dogs are permitted in the park provided they remain on leash. They are not permitted on the beach. Make sure to bring your own bags. There are bins onsite.

You can join the coastal walk from the north of Maroubra Beach. The trail is exposed so make sure you bring a hat and sunscreen.
