Getting To Gibson’s Beach, Watsons Bay

Where Is It?

Just south of the Watsons Bay Baths and Tea Gardens, Gibson’s Beach is a small beach near the Pilot Station at the end of Marine Parade in Watsons Bay. It is also accessible from Palmerston Street and Salisbury Street off Hopetoun Avenue.


The 325 stops along Hopetoun Avenue.


Take the ferry to Watsons Bay Wharf and it’s only short walk south along the foreshore from there.

There are parking bays on Marine Parade but it can get busy on weekends on holidays.

Wade In The Harbour, Or Swim At The Baths

Get your feet wet while you admire the views across Sydney Harbour, with the Bridge visible on the horizon. Feel the need to swim a few laps? Watsons Bay Baths are right nextdoor. Both beach and baths have outdoor showers for washing off after a swim.

Gibson’s Beach Reserve might be small, but it’s got plenty of shade and is just enough off the beaten track to avoid getting too caught up with the weekend rush. Lay out a towel or just stretch out on the grass with some shade.

The Watsons Bay Tea Gardens are opposite the baths, and there’s plenty more options towards Watson’s Bay Beach, like famous Doyle’s Seafood. Or grab some takeaway from their pier and enjoy it in beautiful Robertson Park.

Explore The Coastal Walk

Head east to Gap Park and discover outstanding views of the Pacific Ocean. From there traverse north towards South Head and Hornby Lighthouse. with views across to the harbour towards Manly and Freshwater, or south to discover Macquarie Lighthouse (Australia’s oldest lighthouse), Christison Park and the cafes nearby.
