Nestled inside a small cove between Mackenzies Bay and Bronte Beach, Tamarama is a popular place to relax and enjoy the surf.

Getting to Tamarama Beach, Tamarama

Where Is It?

Tamarama Beach is located on Pacific Drive and Tamarama Marine Drive north of Bronte and south of Bondi Beach. It is a small cove beach backed by Tamara Park. Hewlett Street offers the best approach from the city, but you could also cross through the park from Cross Street, Wolaroi Crescent or Carlisle Street.

The 361 from Bondi Junction stops directly out the front.

The best street address is Tamarama Marine Dr, Tamarama NSW 2026

If you are lucky you might score untimed parking along Tamarama Marine Drive as it turns into Pacific Drive. Otherwise there is streetside parking in the backstreets around Hewlett Street. or behind the park on Cross Street, Carlisle Street and Wolaroi Crescent. The roads around Tamarama can be steep and narrow so get in early to find a good spot.

Things To Do

Brave The Waves And Take A Dip

Despite being only 80 meters long Tamarama has a reputation for rough swells. Tamarama SLSC has their work cut out for them with almost as many rescues each year as Bondi despite barely 1/10th the number of swimmers. Still it’s a beautiful beach and well worth a dip provided you swim between the flags.

Tamarama Beach Sydney

 Bring The Board Down Early

Tamarama is a great surfing spot, particularly in the winter or early mornings. Unfortunately surfing is prohibited during patrol hours (I guess the Lifesavers have their hands full with swimmers), but fortunately there’s good surf at nearby Mackenzies Bay or Bronte Beach.

Tamarama Beach Walk

Angle Off The Rocks

There is good fishing off both headlands at Tamarama Beach, and you’ll usually find one or two anglers around most times of the day. Make sure to follow state rules and regs and fish with appropriate safety gear.

Sculpture By The Sea Bondi To Coogee Walk

Explore The Bondi To Coogee Walk

Running through Tamarama from Bondi Beach to Coogee Beach, this spectacular coastal walk is a popular year round with joggers, walkers and tourists, offering incredible views of the eastern coastline and a great way to discover some of Sydney’s best beaches.

Tamarama Beach Park Playground

The playground is bright and modern with sunshades to keep the UV off.

Grab A Coffee, Have  Picnic, Play In The Playground

The Tama kiosk & cafe is right next to the beach, and there’s covered picnic tables and a small, sunshaded playground with some unique and fun equipment for the kids. And if that’s not enough, cross the road to Tamarama Park and there’s plenty of open green space to kick a ball around or even throw a frisbee.

  • Food

Tamarama Beach kiosk ‘The Tama’ has an upmarket selection of food and drink with everything from fresh juices and salads to coffee, pies and sandwiches.

  • Rubbish Bins

There are rubbish bins in the park for disposing of your rubbish.

  • Toilets

    Wheelchair accessible toilets are onsite.

  • Can I take my dog?

Dogs are allowed on leash along the Coastal Walk but not on the beach.

  • Can I lock my bike up

There are spots to lock your bike up near the beach and pathways.
