Dogs love the water, and Sydney loves beaches. Still, it’s not that easy to find a stretch of sand where the pooch can paddle inside the city limits. We’ve compiled the best waterfronts for dogs and their owners.

Greenhills Beach Cronulla Pano

Occupying the coastline in North -Cronulla all the way to Kurnell, Greenhills is a choppy surf beach with timed off leash dog walking every day. Owners can bring their dogs down between of a morning and in the afternoons and let them frolic to their hearts content. It’s popular spot, and you can pretty much guarantee seeing another dozen or so pooches on your travels, making it a fun place for dogs (and humans) to socialise.

Silver Beach Fishing Groyne Kurnell

Stretching out along the southern coastline of Botany Bay,Silver Beach is a popular swimming spot that also boasts some good fishing off the groynes. At the western end of the beach between the third and fourth jetties (groynes) is Bonna Point Reserve, where it is just fine.

Rose Bay Foreshore Dog Beaches In Sydney

Rose Bay Foreshore / Dumaresq Reserve Beach | Rose Bay

Not to be confused with Rose Bay Park Beach, the Rose Bay Foreshore stretches from Dumaresq Reserve to Tingira Memorial Reserve and occupies the southern end of Rose Bay. Dogs are free to frolic off leash across the entirety of the foreshore beach and splash around in the low, flat bay. It’s also close to Lyne Park which sports off leash dog zones and the Rose Bay Promenade Walk is a picturesque on leash detour. Keep in mind that dogs aren’t allowed on tiny Tingira Memorial Beach, which is at the western end of the foreshore where the kayak rental is located.

Quiet and shady, this small Bay Beach is on leash dog friendly. A contemplative spot away from the hustle and bustle with a gorgeous view across two marinas.

Darook Beach Cronulla Sydney

Right up the other end of Cronulla’s coastline, Darook Beach is a small Bay Beach facing west towards Gunnamatta Bay, making it a particularly spectacular place to be of an afternoon and at dusk. There’s not really signage to determine if it’s dog friendly, but the beach is along a common walking route through Darook Park so even if it’s unofficial, this beach seems dog friendly.

Horderns Beach | Bundeena

Bundeena’s central beach is bordered by the ferry wharf at one end with a nice park and playground and plenty of shops nearby, it’s an underrated spot to spend the weekend in a secluded part of the Shire on a stone’s throw from the Royal National Park

In the winter months (May through August) Horderns Beach is off leash dog friendly all day every day. As the seasons turn warmer dog access is timed similar to some other beaches, so from September through to April it’s dog friendly before 830am and after 4:30pm.

Sirius Cove | Mosman

Sirius Cove and the adjacent park is a popular spot for picnics, with access to the water and great views south. During the week dogs can frolic from dusk to dawn, while come weekends (and public holidays) it’s dog friendly before 9am and after 4pm.

Spit Reserve | Mosman

While it’s not a beach, there is plenty of access to the water and it’s dog friendly in a unique and iconic part of Sydney.

Clifton Gardens Beach | Mosman

Address: Morella Rd, Mosman NSW 2088
If you’re willing to jump through a few hoops regarding time restrictions, you can exercise the dog off leash before 9am and after 4pm April to September and before 9am and after 6pm October to May at the beach east of the jetty.
